3 Women 3

The Goldmark Cultural Center’s Norman Brown Gallery presents “3 Women 3: A Perspective of Women by Women”, an exhibition of new painting, sculpture, and found-object works by Goldmark artists Rita Barnard, Vicki Charlotta, and April Soncrant.

The exhibition is on display from June 30, 2025 to July 25, 2025, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 12, from 6pm – 8pm. The reception is an ideal time to meet the exhibiting artists and learn from them about their artwork.

About the Exhibition
”3 Women 3: A Perspective of Women by Women” features a selection of paintings, sculptures, and found-object works that use the female form to illustrate the stories and lived experience of women. The three exhibiting artists — Rita Barnard, Vicki Charlotta, and April Soncrant — are longtime friends and artistic collaborators, whose works collectively provide a visual commentary and female perspective on the multiple roles of a woman: her person, her purpose and her personality.

There is a paradox in being female. There seems to be constant and conflicting demands. Is it possible to be hard AND soft? As a modern woman, we are supposed to be delicate but strong, tender but tough, harmless but capable, protective but needing protection, sensuous but sensible, innocent but intelligent, to be beautiful, but not boastful. We aspire to have the quality of feminine mystique without guile or deception and  childlike playfulness without being foolish or naive. Some of these expectations are of our own making. We resist having doors opened for us, but want to be treated “like a lady.” We want to flirt, without being called flirtatious. We want to be seen and treated as equal, but acknowledge at times that we are different. Walking the fine line is exhausting! No wonder we are always tired and frustrated!
