About The Event

Discover how to create unique cells and lacing by using tools such as palette knives and hair dryers. Cell art is a form of acrylic pouring where colors are layered on top of each other and then either swiped with a palette knife or blown with air to create a unique cellular reaction.

In this step-by-step workshop you will learn how to create various forms of cell art. This workshop will also go over color theory and the different recipes to mix your acrylic paints and also how to prepare your canvas.  We will also go over which acrylic paint brands work best to achieve a beautiful painting.

11:00 am to 1:30 pm:

In the first half of the workshop we will discuss color theory and paint densities and opacities.  We will also discuss what paint brands and mediums work best.  Students will also be shown the difference between silicone cells and cells achieved with mediums such as Australian floetrol.  We will also create a piece using a hair dryer and students will learn how to control their dryer to create an ethereal piece.

1:30 pm to 2:30 pm – Lunch

2:30 pm to 6:00 pm

In the second half of our workshop will discuss about achieving cells with the swiping technique.  Students learn how to use palette knives to swipe for cells.  We will discuss composition and also learn about negative space.  We will also learn about puddling our paints and swiping colors over each other to achieve ombre cells.  Students will walk away with confidence on holding their palette knife correctly and applying the right amount of pressure required to swipe.

***Students will practice on two 8×8 canvases for each style; blow dryer and swiping.  Students will receive a 12×16 inch to create their final piece.
